A literary forest which sits amidst the natural stillness of Lake Yamanakako. Along the paths, which are dotted with stone slabs inscribed with haiku by poets and literary šgures connected to Lake Yamanakako, are attractions such as the Soho Tokutomi Museum or the Yukio Mishima Museum, where handwritten manuscripts and other precious documents are on display.

The trees which have taken root atop the lava flows spewed forth from a former eruption range from 200 to 300 years and cover the region in an unbroken, primeval forest. A treasury for wild deer and birdlife as well.

Known as ‘the mirror of heaven and earth,’ 2305m above sea level, is Mt. Fuji Gogome (‘5th Station’). Sparkling at its feet are the beautiful scenic landscapes of Fuji Five Lakes, the Southern Alps, Yatsugatake and the Chichibu mountain range. Excellent food can be sampled in the cabin style restaurants and hotels.

This cavern was created by receding lava flows. During the winter, underground water from Mt. Fuji drops from the ceiling to form icicles and frozen pillars, creating a beautifully mysterious world of ice.

State of the art technology reenvisions the world and Mt. Fuji of ancient times in this museum. Along the 1500m nature exploration trail, which circles the outside of the building, lava tree moulds and vegetation characteristic of Fujihokuroku can be seen.
